Pre-K Family Night

Mark your  calendars! Our December Pre-K Family Night will be on Tuesday, December 13th from 5-6:30 p.m.  You won't want to miss a thing!

We will be visited by one of Santa's reindeer and his sleigh! Children will be able to have their picture taken during this event and are welcome to come in their Christmas pajamas if they wish. We will also be decorating Christmas cookies and having story time. Don't forget...we'll be having a drawing for door prizes again!

Week in Review

This week in Pre-K we visited the worlds of Jack and the Beanstalk and the Three Billy Goats Gruff. We read two different versions of each story and then compared/contrasted each one. The students also enjoyed using our fairy tale figures to act out each of the stories during center time.

We also spent some time creating in the Art Center, playing bookstore in Dramatic Play, and FINALLY getting to try out the new merry-go-round on the playground! On Wednesday we had a visit from Ms. Sarah and Ag in the Classroom. She shared with us how cranberries are grown. It was a great week to enjoy the last of the warm weather.

Next week we'll focus on Thanksgiving and everything we're thankful for this year!

*The weather is getting much cooler! Please make sure to switch out your child's extra clothing for come that is appropriate for cooler temperatures. Also, please make sure your child has a jacket/coat. Unless it is raining, or the wind chill is too cold, we will be outside all year for recess.

*If you are dropping off your child at the drop-off zone, please remember that  students are not to be let out of the car without an adult present. Morning drop-off time begins at 7:30 and afternoon drop-off time begins at 11:55. If you are in the morning class, please do not send your child to the building if the gates are locked. We are unable to supervise them until staff arrives at 7:30. Thank you!

A Day in the Life...

The week is off to a great start! We are beginning an exploration of classic stories and have read two versions of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We will be reading a different version each day this week and comparing/contrasting the stories. The students are really enjoying this story! A couple of the versions we will be using are pictured below. They are a fresh, silly take on the classic story.

A few other moments from the beginning of our week:

Wyatt trying out our new light table.

Aubrie loves our new doll and stroller!

Today was an instrument day.

Kassidy and Hensley made birthday cakes.

Aubrie and Isabella are hard at work making bracelets.

Just in case you might think it's always calm and quiet here in Pre-K...here's just a 10 second clip of what it sounded like this afternoon. (and this was after half of the students had moved on to new activities)

We're Back!!

We're back! Sorry for the absence! The combination of Parent/Teacher conferences and Halloween made for some crazy weeks the past two weeks. We should be back on track for blog posts!

Last week we read several spooky stories to get us in the Halloween mindset. The students loved being "scared" by the stories, especially the ones that had a surprise element. We read several more than once.

This was one of our particular favorites, but we read it with quite a bit more drama, lol.

Some of you may have heard this at Pre-K Family Night. It is a great addition to any family library!

Our day goes on "business as usual" on Halloween-we're used to wearing costumes !

This week, once the Halloween festivities were over, we began talking about creepy, crawly spiders.
We have learned how many eyes, legs, and body parts spiders have, what different sizes of spiders exist (some are as big as a dinner plate and can eat a bird!), and how spiders camouflage themselves.
We also created spiderwebs with marble painting and drew our own spiders to adorn them.

Surprisingly, a lot of students said they weren't afraid of spiders...although I do doubt their honesty a bit!

Next week's color of the week will be our last...it is BROWN! Thanks to all who have sent in items for our color posters. The students enjoy looking at them daily as they are playing during center time.
